Solution A rather ingenious and very simple concept. The Kazuma Owners Manual talks about this on page 2. Here is our interpetation: You will have more parental control over the semi-auto tranny on the MeerKat. It is because you have the option of locking the tranny in first gear and adjusting the throttle way down. This will result in the rider only traveling in first gear at low speed. Most new inexperienced riders could care less about shifters anyway. They will grin from ear to ear just pushing the gas and moving forward. AS they become more experienced you can place the Meerkat in second gear. It is safe to take off from a start in second gear. You can also now adjust the throttle to allow more speed. And once again as they gain more experience and confidence, you can then introduce them to third gear etc.
Some parents will remove the shifter and others leave it on. As your little rider proves his abilities you can then give instructions on how to shift.....it won't take much instructing....they catch on quicker than you think. So simple it is ingenious. More food for thought----most small fully automatics are locked into third gear and the engine manufacturer just removes the shift shaft. You will not get as much parental control with those types of "fully auto's". This last statement will confuse many parents. We will clarify and share our experiences and what we have found in a later article and do a comparison of the fully autos versus the semi autos.
